August was another fantastic month in Drumheller. First off, I want to congratulate all the hard working men and women of Drumheller and Area Skateboard Enthusiasts (D.A.S.E.) who volunteered their time to make the new skateboard park a reality in our community. They saw a need for something like this and went out and did it. Congratulations on a job well done. We, of course, can’t forget about the valuable donors to this project who contributed greatly and made the project succeed.

Work is progressing well with our new Hillsview Phase II subdivision which will connect 10th Ave SE to 1st Street SW. Concrete work is being done and utilities are being installed as we speak. We will have signs up very soon advertising this exciting new subdivision.

I also want to congratulate the Canadian Badlands Passion Play on hosting Tom Cochrane and Red Rider. Over 2500 people attended and I’ve heard nothing but positive comments about the show. Hopefully we’ll see many more shows like this at that fantastic location.

Looking ahead to September, we will continue to lobby the provincial government on flood mitigation. This has is an ongoing issue and we will not give up on it until we get more answers. After the September long weekend we will begin fixing up Rex the dinosaur beside the spray fountain, which may result in a larger project with regards to the dinosaur. Stay tuned. Speaking of the spray fountain, we have committed 180 thousand dollars for upgrades to the filtration and chlorination systems and have a applied for a grant to assist in reducing costs. We await confirmation.

Finally I want to welcome all participants to Tough Mudder 2015 September long weekend in Drumheller. This is another event our community has rallied behind and will no doubt be another success. Thanks to all the volunteers who work very hard at making this event run smoothly each year.

Mayor Terry Yemen.
