By-laws |

Municpal bylaws are regulations approved by Council to safeguard and protect persons and properties.

Section 180 of the Municipal Government Act (MGA) states that a council may only exercise power through bylaws or resolutions.

Community Enforcement officers serve residents by enforcing these bylaws.

Passing a bylaw involves certain legal procedures.

The steps to pass a bylaw are prescribed in sections of the MGA and, depending on the nature of the bylaw, will include:

  • Review by Council
  • Publicity (where required)
  • Hearing (where required)
  • Three readings, and
  • Signing

If you have a complaint or question concerning a particular bylaw, you may contact the Town office and you will be directed to the appropriate individual through (403) 823-6300.
