Weight restrictions imposed on Bridge 11 at Wayne

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 22nd 2018

The Town of Drumheller announced today that Bridge 11 on Highway 10X now has been given a reduced weight rating of 3 tonnes. This restriction takes place immediately.

"Bridges 9, 10 and 11 have been inspected this week as part of regular maintenance and specifically, after the Wayne flood earlier this year," outlined Julia Fielding Communications Officer of the Town of Drumheller. "The inspection indicated that the bridge has deteriorated substantially over the last two years."

"The bridge inspectors have reduced the bridge rating (the weight that can go over the bridge) and the maximum weight that can cross this structure is now 3 tonnes. This is a significant downgrade as most of the bridges can handle on average16-24 tonnes," Darryl Drohomerski went on to explain. "We will be putting up signage and contacting the school bus operator that travels this route to inform them a route change is required immediately".

Bridge 11 is on the capital budget list for replacement, pending grant funding. The town has applied for a STIP (Strategic Transportation Infrastructure Program) grant to repair the bridge the last two years and will do so again this year. The town will also be applying for Disaster Recovery Program funding for this project.
