Casual Lifeguard or Instructor

Position Summary:  Reporting to the Shift Supervisor 1, this position is responsible for life guarding supervision to the public and providing a safe, clean, professional and friendly environment to ensure that pool patrons have a positive aquatic experience as well as providing aquatic programs and lessons to the public. 

Education and Experience:  Depending on the level of experience, all applicants must have their National Lifeguard or Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate as well as First Aid/CPR Certificates. Water Safety Instructor course would be an asset, but is not a requirement. Candidates with excellent communication and positive interpersonal skills; time management and computer skills and knowledge of aquatics programming principles are encouraged to apply. 

Hours per Week: On an as needed basis.  Shifts vary between morning, days, evenings and weekends.

Pay Scale: $16.46 - $19.10

Casual Cashier/Waterslide Attendant

Position Summary:  Responsible for providing assistance to the public at the front counter.  Respond to inquiries and answer the telephone at the Aquaplex.  Responsible for cashiering services as well as supervision to the public in the waterslide area and perform maintenance and janitorial duties throughout the Aquaplex.

Education and Experience:  Must be bondable, perform all duties with a minimum of supervision and work effectively with variable work loads and produce timely and accurate documentation.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Valid Bronze Cross and Bronze Medallion certifications.  Standard First Aid award or Assistant Water Safety Instructor award an asset.

Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator

Our Water and Waste Water Team has undergone recent exciting changes and is seeking enthusiastic, customer-centric and ‘safety first’ individuals for the position of Plant Operator.

Located in the heart of the Canadian Badlands, the Town of Drumheller is a worldwide tourism destination community serving 8,000 permanent residents and over 500,000 visitors annually. The Municipality is the largest ‘town’ in Alberta by land size and spans over 107 square kilometres, this includes the communities of Drumheller, Midland, Bankview, Newcastle, North Drumheller, Nacmine, Wayne, East Coulee, Rosedale, and Cambria.

The Utilities department is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the water treatment plant, water distribution network, wastewater treatment plants, and sanitary collection system. There are also five (5) water reservoirs, two (2) water booster station and seven (7) sanitary lift stations. Our Team is focused on continuous operational improvements and is making changes to exceed industry standards!

Position Summary: Responsible for the daily maintenance, testing and operations of the Town’s Water and Waste Water Systems in accordance with Provincial and Federal legislation, codes, bylaws, policies and procedures. Provide direction to Plant Operator in Training.

Education and Experience: Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of Alberta Environment Operator 2 certifications in Water Treatment, Water Distribution, Waste Water Collection, and Waste Water Treatment, Preference given to those with post secondary certificate in water and/or waste water systems. Two (2) years of related experience as a Plant Operator 1.

Physically fit with the ability to withstand normal working conditions. Performs all duties with a minimum of supervision and works effectively with variable work loads. Strong verbal & Written communication skills required. Hands-on application and use of computer systems and their applications. An Alberta Class 5 valid driver’s license.

Hours Per Week: Monday to Friday - 40 hours per shift cycle

Pay Scale: $39.60/hour (As per CUPE 135 Collective Agreement)
*Applicants with Level 1 qualifications may be considered at a lower rate of pay.

Position Summary: Supporting the Events Coordinator, this position will assist with the planning and implementation of Town of Drumheller’s events including the set-up and take down of equipment, ensuring the event area is clean, safe and presentable, and engaging and facilitating activities with community members, and visitors at the events. Community Development Coordinator

The Town of Drumheller is seeking an enthusiastic and industrious individual for the position of Temporary Full Time Community Development Coordinator.

This is a temporary full-time position for approximately 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

*Post Secondary student applicants who are available for fulltime work from mid-April to end of August and part-time hours thereafter may be considered.

Position Summary: Working within a dynamic team, the Community Development Coordinator will provide leadership, advocacy and support to our community and social development initiatives.  Primary areas of focus will include community capacity building, enabling volunteerism, providing information and referral, conducting social research and analysis, and Welcoming & Inclusive Communities initiatives.  This position prepares and executes grant proposals that contribute to existing programs and address emerging needs and trends within the community.  Where applicable, the position is responsible for adhering to the Family and Community Support Services Act and Regulation.

Hours per Week:  37.50 hours (Monday – Friday) May work some overtime

Pay Scale:  Program Coordinator ll ($24.58 - $28.77)

Required Qualifications:  Grade 12 or equivalent as well as Diploma or degree in Community Development, Social Sciences or other human service disciplines.  Minimum 3 years of community development and program coordination experience.

Desirable Qualifications:  Knowledge of existing community organizations, groups and volunteer activities.  Valid First Aid/CPR Certification.  Certified in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training.  IAP2 training in planning and facilitating community public participation.  Able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and some General Holidays.

Successful Candidate must be:

  • Bondable

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite

  • Collect program data and outcomes for quarterly and annual reports
  • Utilize traditional and social media to promote programs and services

Facility Operator

Position Summary: Responsible for operational readiness and maintenance of the Town’s recreation and administrative facilities and buildings.  Responsible for the maintaining and repairing of facilities and associated equipment.  Perform the duties of all subordinate classifications when not in this capacity. 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Class 5 license
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • A good knowledge regarding operation of industrial refrigeration systems would be an asset
  • Preference given to those individuals with direct experience in the plumbing field, and troubleshooting controls and maintenance of HVAC systems, as well as a good understanding of pressure vessels, their processes, limits and controls with hot water and steam boiler systems
